Magnetic 3D Bioprinting, 3D Cell Culture in a 2D Workflow
The growing push for 3D cell culture models is limited by technical challenges in handling, processing and scalability to high-throughput applications. To meet these challenges, Greiner has developed a magnetic 3D bioprinting platform, in which cells are individually magnetized and assembled allowing researchers to gain fine spatial control in the formation of spheroids and more complex structures.
This presentation will focus on recent developments using this platform, particularly in cancer biology and immunology. Specifically, Dr. Souza will present a method for phenotypic profiling of cell types within spheroids using real-time high-throughput imaging.
Key highlights:
- General technique of magnetic 3D cell culture and magnetic 3D bioprinting
- Key advantages of 3D cell culture over other techniques
- Broad applications of 3D cell culture
- Evaluation of apoptosis in bioprinted 3D spheroids using the SpectraMax i3x reader and MiniMax imaging system
- Comparison between magnetic 3D cell culture and in vivo results in collaboration with MD Anderson Cancer Center
- High-throughput screening results in collaboration with Scripps Research Institute and Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory
